Facing The Reality Of A Parody Documentary

By Marci Nielsen

Many times two things might look the same yet be very different when looked at more closely. This is true of a parody documentary that looks like a real show with truthful information but is not anywhere near the real thing. This is why it is important for television viewers to know the difference so that they will not take the show meant for humor too seriously.

A show that is informative is usually based on facts. The research that has been done before hand should be thorough and the right people contacted in order to get different sides of the story. Due to the serious nature of the show, the viewers tend to take things very seriously. They usually believe that what is presented is the truth.

They have to make sure that they are talking to the right people and reading the right documents that are available to them. They also have to make sure that their method of going about collecting this information is legal. If they are not doing their job in the right way, they can be sued or loose their job for breaking the law or not following the rules of their employer.

Since a comedy show follows that same style of the real program, it can be easy to think that it is real especially for those who are used to taking these shows seriously. However, it is only harder to tell the difference if it is well done and of the same serious tone as the real show. Otherwise, using the same genre in a different light can be quite obvious.

Something as simple as the way a person holds their head, or how aggressive they might be with their presentation can be used in an exaggerated manner for comedy. The creators of the satire might also use the opportunity to point out a claim that sounds absurd when closely examined. By taking it to extreme, the viewer can see the humor in it.

On the other hand, this might not be true of everyone since some people might be concerned over the presentation of something that makes a mockery of a real story. What might be funny to one person might be very offensive to another. In the world of entertainment, some people might really love a show or they might really dislike it for a number of reasons.

Yet, on a serious note, it takes a serious amount of work to present these satirical shows. One has to be able to see things from various points of view and this is not easy for many people to do. The creators of these shows also have to look for things within the real show that can be exaggerated to the point of being silly which can also be a challenge.

This can take a significant amount of time to do. A creative person has to be able to study the real thing for hours before coming up with something that is similar yet different. Since there is so much work involved creating these shows, they tend to be appreciated by many around the world.
