Awesome Aquariums and Zoos in Atlanta

In possession of a warm climate and a great home in the foot hills of the southern Appalachian mountains in Atlanta, Georgia. Atlanta offers visitors a pleasant array of attractions and activities. Counted among the most appealing attractions, piquing the curiousity of both children and adults, are Atlanta's most popular area zoos and aquariums, boasting several sorts of animals from all over the world. There are a few zoos Atlanta has to offer that are well worthy of visiting.

Zoo Atlanta

More than 1,000 animals including several endangered species on the very edge of extinction are present at this zoo. Birds, reptiles, mammals, amphibians, and even carnivorous plants, can be admired in this 40 acre zoo member of the Organisation of Zoos and Aquariums. Boasting more than 220 species, the Zoo in Atlanta is among the only 4 zoos in the U. S. to house giant pandas. This zoo also has the biggest collection of western lowland gorillas and orangutans. This zoo is open everyday 363 days a year and closed for Xmas Day and Thanksgiving Day.

Georgia Aquarium

Wonder and tons of excitement around every corner await visitors keen to explore the intriguing marine arena of this Atlanta aquarium. Home to top class events, interactive displays and more than 10 million gallons of fresh and sea water, the Georgia Aquarium offers an interesting glimpse of sea life that is bound to leave enduring memories. A gift shop and cafeteria? Is available on grounds. This Atlanta aquarium is open 365 days a year.

Pine Mountain Wild Animal Safari

Visitors seeking a unique experience may enjoy a wild animal safari in Pine Mountain, about an hour away from Atlanta. Among the zoos in Atlanta visitors here can ride with their own vehicle or they can sit back and enjoy a tour on one of the "Zebra Vans". Different habitats and its local animals will be featured among the fields, swamps, deserts, mountains and forests. The safari also boasts some endangered wildlife including Siberian Tigers, Water Buffalos and Bactrian Camels. The park's hours have a tendency to vary seasonally, so it is sensible to check prior to booking.

Noah's Ark

A variation on a Zoo in Atlanta, Noah's Ark is worth mentioning because it has a cause. While not particularly a zoo in the real sense of the word, there may be more than 1,000 animals at this animal rehab center for abused, wounded and orphaned animals. The entry is free and there are self-guided tours offering visitors the chance to watch exotic animals in a natural environment. The animal habitat is open daily except Sundays, Mondays and major vacations.
